When you're winning, be quiet
When you’re winning, be quiet.
I heard this phrase, and at the time, it was something I needed to hear.
We all know the saying, “Pride goeth before destruction,” (Proverbs 16:8a KJV), but we don’t often hear the next part of the verse, “and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
It is really easy to get thinking of yourself as something when you’re at a high point, when you’ve accomplished something, overcome an obstacle, or are “winning” in some way.
Pride can sneak in and make you feel the need to gloat and pat yourself on the back.
The idea behind “When you’re winning, be quiet,” is that you should remain humble and shouldn’t feel the need to rub your victory in or inflate yourself. Let others praise you. Don’t praise yourself.
Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.
Proverbs 27:2 KJV
