Think about the ending first
A common piece of advice given for coming up with a fictional story is to figure out the ending first. That way you know where the story will end up. Endings are notoriously difficult, but if you have the ending prefigured (or at least have a rough target) then it’s far easier to write your story. It makes it simple because then all the prior plot points simply lead up to that ending.
In the same way, if you think about the end of your life first then you will likely make it count.
