An interesting shift
Even though I rarely pay attention to the news or happenings (and maybe that’s why it’s clearer for me to see), it’s hard not to see that there is an interesting shift taking place (in the USA at least).
It is interesting to me how all of a sudden so many celebrities are getting married now, rappers, and musicians are going towards more family friendly lyrics and themes, etc.
In part, it’s probably to appeal to gen Z, which is not only of marriage age now, but generally dislike that which is fake and want things that are real—hence marriage and family are popular again.
I would like to think that perhaps these celebrities and musicians are seeing the error of their ways and the wisdom of Yahweh’s order, but I don’t know—is it too naive to be so hopeful?
I fear that in many cases it is only to appeal to the shift in public opinion. Obviously, in order to be commercially successful, these celebrities would need to shift their image towards more family and marriage friendly themes, otherwise the public would reject them.
Again I’m hopeful, but it is ultimately something only Yahweh can judge since I can’t see hearts like He can.
I will say that it’s rather sad that these celebrities (again, I’m generalizing because I don’t know their hearts) act like chameleons, swaying according to popular opinion. I might be bold enough to offer the idea that doing so might backfire if they are not genuine.
A believer, however, doesn’t shift with popular opinion. We have Yahweh’s unchanging order and will given to us in the Scriptures and through His Spirit. Therefore, even when marriage and family inevitably become “unpopular” again, it won’t matter to those who are believers. Marriage and family have always been Yahweh’s way, and that doesn’t change based on public opinion.
This apparent shift in celebrities image is another example of following the swaying opinions of man, which is like building your house on sand. Meanwhile, following Yahweh’s ways are like building on a rock, an unshakable foundation.
What will we choose?
