Random thoughts on individualism
For all its benefits, practiced individualism has faults.
I’ve been reading some commentary and it is interesting how individualism is essentially synonymous with the West. I believe I can safely say it’s culturally the norm here in America. While the ideas have certainly shaped our country (and I’m thankful for the benefits), I wonder if we’re losing genuine connection with other people in part because of those same ideas.
Yahweh created us to live in community, in fellowship with Him and others. The ideas individualism upholds doesn’t always help with those.
Community is built not found, and people relationships are hard. Maybe that’s why our default has become drawn-in and individual.
