What we can control
One of the most difficult things in life is to not try to control your own life. It’s easy to want to control your circumstances and control other people, but trying to do so is delusional. The blunt truth is that we don’t generally have control over what happens to us or how people treat us. We can only control ourselves (i.e. self-control) and our actions.
Circumstances may not change, but you can choose how you handle the situation.
People may not change, but you can choose how you treat them.
Oftentimes, Yahweh, our Heavenly Father, uses our situation and the people that bother us to mold and shape us — if we’re surrendered and listening to what He is trying to teach us.
Love is an action word. It often requires sacrifice and long-suffering on our part. To respond with love and patience instead of trying to control is difficult indeed, but it is what we need to strive towards.
Because the only thing we can really control is how we respond.
