A look into someone's brain
Reading a personal blog is a lot like looking into someone’s brain. You can see what the author believes, how they view things, how they think, how they approach different subjects, and a whole lot of other things, both beautiful and scary.
I’ve always enjoyed reading personal blogs. (It’s no coincidence that I also enjoy reading biographies.)
As the author of a personal blog, it requires a certain amount of vulnerability and humility to write. Humility, because if you’re honest and not polishing your writing so much that it’s no longer your writing, then you certainly see ways you need to improve in thinking and writing.
You could be writing pretty badly from a literary perspective or be uncertain if you’re wrong about your thoughts on something of the topic. It’s not a graded, checked assignment in school—it’s free writing. That’s uncertain, and thus scary.
However, some thinking can only be done by writing, and so laying out your brain is necessary for that end. As scary as it can be, it can then hopefully benefit others just as much as it benefits you.
