Abraham's test
Some unbelievers take offense to the idea that Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son Isaac. They claim that Abraham should have told Yahweh, “No,” when asked (as if Yahweh was unrighteous and Abraham could have been more righteous by refusing.)
However, this perspective is quite obviously uninformed.
Those who have read and understood Scripture know that this story foreshadows the sacrifice of Yahushua the Messiah.
The salvation story is that a completely innocent man (Yahushua the Messiah) was sacrificed willingly by His father (Yahweh).
So the question is: is it unjust for someone to sacrifice themselves for someone else?
Of course not. In fact, there’s probably no greater show of love than the ultimate sacrifice of a life for someone.
The Scriptures also reveal that Abraham believed and knew that Yahweh could raise his son from the dead. So even if Abraham had gone through with it, Yahweh could raise Isaac.
Isn’t it interesting how it mirrors the salvation story?
Yahweh can and did raise His own son, Yahushua the Messiah from the dead, just like he would have raised Isaac for Abraham.
As an aside, Yahweh provided a ram in the thicket to be the sacrifice in the place of Isaac. Again, a symbol pointing to the Messiah’s sacrifice.
So no, Yahweh was not unjust for testing Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son. After all, Yahweh would later sacrifice His son for the sins of the world —and I’m grateful that He did.
