Simplifying concepts
Having been working since the beginning of the year on writing and illustrating my first independent children’s book, the idea of simplifying concepts is really relevant.
It is interesting how in trying to simplify abstract concepts into words and pictures that a child can understand, it has forced me to learn a lot about the topic and dig deeper than I wouldn’t have otherwise.
In my last post, I challenged myself to explain computer programming as simply as I could. Whether or not I succeeded in that I’ll let you be the judge.
I did, however, come away from it knowing “what computer programming is” a whole lot deeper myself. The process of having to think it through, break it down into simple terms, and form (hopefully) clear sentences was almost like teaching myself.
The same with the children’s book, where reducing the concepts to plain language has helped me to see things I hadn’t before. :)
