Consistency over time
I’ve been quite amazed at how much can be accomplished and learned over time when done consistently.
A terrible example of consistently doing something is me writing posts for this microblog. Up until recently, I only published a post occasionally, and then almost never with any sort of schedule.
Well, look, it was nearly a 1/6th through the year before the first post of 2025! As a result, I don’t have as much to show in terms of posts or writing improvement as I would have if I had done so consistently, even once a week. (That’s not to say I hadn’t written anything until then—in fact I’ve been working on long writing projects all year.)
A better example would be my time-lapse app, Velocity Lapse. I pretty consistently release app updates about once or twice a month. Many of the updates are small in terms of fixes and new features, but it is amazing how quickly the small, consistent updates build up to improve the app over time.
