We need more emphasis on discernment
I often wonder if there is too much emphasis and time placed on dispelling individual lies from the devil. One could hardly wade through the enormous amount of “_____ exposed” videos on YT in their lifetime. To me, that is sad.
Wouldn’t it be better to teach people discernment from Scripture rather than to purposely bring attention to each evil person or thing individually?
The reason? Sure, someone might find out that a particular person or thing is wrong after watching the video, but when the next person or thing comes along it won’t really help them.
Of course, examples are helpful and there is definitely a time for calling out evil. I have to really wonder, though, why the people creating these videos think they need to feed themselves the constant stream of evil to supposedly tell others about each particular evil?
Looking under every rock and stone for the devil’s hand can’t be good. I’m sure he’s more than willing to get the credit and keep them busy putting out fires all the while they fill their minds with evil.
If the general body of believers were able to discern themselves, then those people creating these videos could be less focused on chasing evil like a cat chasing mice.
So my suggestion would be that we should spend more time teaching people how to discern good from evil for themselves. That way there is more focus on the good, the pure, the lovely.
Don’t misunderstand: when the time is appropriate, we should answer hard questions and address evils.
My point isn’t to bash calling out evil at all. I just think the focus is misplaced if we’re creating loads of videos covering every single “evil” person or thing verbosely.
It’s the difference between telling and teaching.
Just telling someone about an evil is like a teacher giving a paper to a student with the statement: 4 + 4 = 8
There’s nothing wrong with the teacher doing that. At times, it is necessary and appropriate.
However, when the student comes to 5 + 5 = ? they probably won’t know what to do. The teacher never taught them how to figure it out themselves.
So, let’s be the teacher that teaches how to discern from Scripture. And maybe, just maybe, all those videos calling out individual evil people and things won’t be necessary…
